Let’s learn to fight back – together!!
Have you been affected by poverty? Ready to take action on the things you care about?
Anti-Poverty Network SA is looking for people who have lived in poverty across Adelaide to be part of a unique opportunity: an 8-month program to build your confidence and skill to speak out on the issues affecting you and your loved ones!!
Starting in late November, we’re running a Campaigning School (don’t worry, no exams – it’ll be much funner than school, we promise!!), with friendly, relaxed monthly sessions, and follow-up activities to practice what you’ve learned.
Sessions will cover:
- Why we have a poverty crisis and a housing crisis
- Planning your own event or activity
- How to deal with politicians
- How to speak to to the media
- Having conversations with your community (including that right-wing uncle!!)
- Doing your own research on topics you care about
- And lots more!!
Whether you have a little bit of experience in activism, not much, or none at all, if you want to take the next step, there’s no better time – so come join us!!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS IT?
An 8-month education and training program teaching essential skills in grassroots campaigning. It will be in-person (with some online content). There will be 3 local groups:
- Northern Suburbs
- Western Suburbs
- Southern Suburbs
Some sessions will be held locally, and some, with all the 3 local groups together, at a central location (we can assist with transport!!)
WHAT WILL I GET OUT OF IT?
- The confidence, skill, and experience to effectively advocate on the issues relating to poverty, and that affect you and your community
- New friends and connections – other people who care about tackling the poverty crisis and housing crisis as much as you!!
- There will be a free lunch, every session, and we will be supporting people to stay involved through transport assistance, digital help, a monthly honorarium, and other means
HOW OFTEN DO I HAVE TO PARTICIPATE?
Sessions will be held roughly once a month, with regular communication between sessions from your volunteer Facilitator (a person who, like you, will also have experienced poverty).
They will be regularly checking-in, making sure you feel support.
There will be a small amount of preparation before each session. And each month, as part of the program, there will be a follow-up action that we will encourage you to do, so you can try out what you have just learned!!
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS A SESSION?
Not to worry, we understand life happens!! If for whatever reason you are unable to make a session, let us know and we can help you catch-up.
