This year for Christmas, we want…

Christmas is a very hard time for people living in poverty, and others experiencing financial hardship and housing crisis.

This year for Christmas, we want the Federal Government to act urgently, by committing to:

– Raising JobSeeker and other Centrelink payments above the poverty-line
-Ending taxpayer subsidies for property investors (the Negative Gearing and the Capital Gains tax breaks), using the extra money to build tens of thousands of extra public homes
-Bringing State Governments together to coordinate national rent controls
-Making it easier for low-income people to access medicines and specialist health services (e.g., dental and mental health services)
-Suspending cruel and punishing “Mutual Obligation” requirements

Join our Christmas-themed action on the steps of Parliament, so we can tell the Federal Government what they need to do to make Christmas a less painful and nerve-wracking time for low-income people, renters, and others struggling to survive.
