These 3 legends, representing Australian Unemployed Workers’ Union and Anti-Poverty Network SA, met with Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth, yesterday, in Morphett Vale, SA.
It came at the end of a grim week: a week where, according news reports, Labor will not be raising JobSeeker in the May 2022 Federal Budget.
It took almost 1 year to organise this meeting.
But finally, the Minister had to listen to people in poverty – people on JobSeeker and the Disability Support Pension – about the overwhelming hardship people are experiencing.
JobSeeker and other Centrelink payments must be raised above the poverty-line.
We will not be told, by those who are not in poverty, to be patient.
We will not be told that there is not the money to ensure we can afford to eat, or that “budget repair” must come before us keeping a roof over our heads.
